Based on the events of 16th August 1819 known as the Peterloo Massacre when cavalry charged into a crowd of 60-80,000 peaceful protestors who had gathered at St. Peters’ Field, Manchester for the reform of parliamentary representation. Jonathan’s own ancestor, Samuel Bamford, led the party from Middleton and wrote an important eyewitness account of the events.
