VIRTUOSO ****
Jonathan Scott, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
The brazen packaging
of this release on the Scott brother's own label - 'virtuoso' in capitals
across the front and no fewer than five full-page shots of Jonathan
looking, er, virtuosic - leaves itself no room to disappoint. Nor
does it: it's great fun, and impressive for Scott's attention to detail.
The Bridgewater Hall's Marcussen, which comes over headphones so well,
is a willing vehicle for the froth of Gordon Nevin's Will o' the
Wisp, through an energetic take on Boellmann's Suite Gothique,
to Jean Guillou's mad arrangement of Prokoviev's expressionistic Toccata.
Enjoy!
