THE BRIDGEWATER HALL ORGAN

The monumental £1.2 million centrepiece of the Bridgewater Hall's world-class auditorium is the Marcussen concert organ. Built in 1996, this instrument was designed as a modern symphonic concert instrument with 76 beautifully voiced stops, a battery of trompettes en chamade and is an integral part of the hall's architectural and acoustic space. It is 42 feet high, 45 feet wide, weighs 22 tons, and contains over 5,500 pipes ranging in length from a few inches to 32 feet. The organ is playable from two four manual and pedal consoles - one is an integral 'fixed' mechanical console, and the other is a mobile recital console which is connected by an optic-cable.
